Neuro-Acupuncture / Scalp Acupuncture

What is Neuro-Acupuncture?

Neuro-Acupuncture is a contemporary acupuncture technique.  While it has a close connection with fundamental theories of Oriental Medicine, its clinical application is based on the modern knowledge of Western biomedical anatomy and physiology of the brain. Acupuncture is well known for its capacity to optimize the body’s natural mechanism for healing. It could encourage the recruitment of healthy brain cells to perform the lost function. Neuro-acupuncture has shown great promise in treating acute and chronic nervous system disorders with few side effects.

What conditions can be treated with neuro-acupuncture?

  • Stroke Paralysis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Bell’s Palsy
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Neuropathy and more

How does Neuro-Acupuncture work?

Through the central nervous and endocrine systems, the structural, metabolic, hormonal, and energetic functions of the brain are accessible at specific areas of the scalp surface.  By stimulating these reflex areas over the scalp, we can regulate and harmonize the functional activities of the brain and body.

There are three forms of neuro-acupuncture which are all based upon the functioning of the nervous system.

  • Scalp acupuncture: targets points on the head and directly impacts the central nervous system.
  • Auricular acupuncture: targets points on the ears and impacts the central nervous system.
  • Body acupuncture: targets points throughout the body that affect both the peripheral and central nervous systems.

Do you use special needles for Neuro-Acupuncture?

The needles we use for Neuro-Acupuncture are no different from standard acupuncture needles.  We use sterile, stainless steel, single-use only needles that range in length from 1 to 1.5 inches

What to expect with Neuro-Acupuncture

We target acupoints, both in the head and throughout the body, that correspond to your particular condition and insert thin needles to stimulate the body’s nervous system. The needles are retained for 30 minutes, during which many people find their breathing will slow, and feelings of relaxation will set in.

A therapeutic course of treatment consists of 10 treatments at intervals between 3 to 7 days.
